Mobile Map App Takes Data Collection Offline in Alaska

March 1, 2015

ENSTAR Natural Gas Company (ENSTAR) is a public utility delivering natural gas through more than 3,000 miles of underground pipeline to approximately 140,000 customers in South-Central Alaska. As part of ENSTAR’s annual inspection process, field technicians using paper maps and printouts would record inspection information and then manually enter data into the utility’s enterprise GIS.

ENSTAR contracted Resource Data to implement a modular mobile GIS application to replace the legacy workflow and better support location-based field data collection. We used ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Windows Mobile and ArcGIS for Server Advanced to build ENSTAR Mobile Maps. This flexible inspection application included modules for meter condition assessments, cathodic infrastructure data collection, and electronic completion reports. Field technicians can now edit maps, enter data, and scan barcodes while in the field and the inspection data is synced daily.

Resource Data and the ENSTAR Mobile Maps application were featured in Esri’s Spring 2015 edition of ArcUser. Check it out here.
